Our original itinerary was to spend a couple of weeks in Auckland and the North Island, then fly to Fiji for Christmas and New Year’s with the aim to come back for a further 2 weeks before heading on. However, as per usual our plans had to be amended, this time because of Cyclone Evans which hit Fiji just days before we were due to fly out.
As such, we ended up staying 60 days in New Zealand. During that time we did two campervan rental, one for 6 days as a trial and then one for 33 days in which time we toured both the North and South Island.

Accommodations we stayed in:
During our time in Auckland we ended up staying in the same place, City Travellers, and for the most part stayed in a studio apartment. However the last few days we were back after our campervan rental we had to stay in their dorms accommodation as they did not availability for the studios.
The rest of our accommodation was in the campervan at either basic campsites or DOC sites, throughout New Zealand. For more on this see our Tips for travelling in a campervan in New Zealand post.
The ratings below are 1 – 5, with 1 being awful and 5 being fantastic:

|City Travellers Dorm||4||2.5||5||3|
